North Yorkshire campsites make UK's Outstanding Sites list for 2026

Machynlleth Town Council has raised no objections to plans by Garth Holiday Park to replace a holiday cabin with six new holiday let pods. The park, in use since the 1950s, has held a David Bellamy Gold Award since 1997 for environmental stewardship. The application will be considered by Powys County Council's planning committee later this year.

Signs banning campervans from overnight parking at Salt Grass Lane, Keyhaven, have been ripped off metal poles for the second time. The restrictions were introduced in December after locals complained about campers staying for weeks and dumping waste water into the sea. Hampshire County Council plans to reinstate the signs and add anti-vandal fixings.

Firefighters spent the night at the scene of a grass fire near the village of Hopeman in Moray. Six appliances and a wildfire unit were sent to the scene at around 16:30 on Tuesday, with four appliances remaining at first light. Footage showed flames and dense smoke next to a campsite containing campervans and caravans. Lossiemouth Community Council said there were believed to have been some power cuts as a result of the fire.

A journalist spent three nights in a new glamping pod at the Camping and Caravanning Club's Braithwaite Village site, assessing location, amenities, and services.

Three appeals have been lodged with the Planning Inspectorate against Warrington Borough Council's decisions to refuse planning permission for a traveller caravan site on green belt land in Burtonwood. Appellant John Varey is also challenging an enforcement notice requiring the land to be restored to its original agricultural condition. The appeals are currently in progress.

Prospect Farm Residential Park in Lenches Road, Colne, has submitted an application for seven static caravans. The site historically operated as a holiday park but changed to residential use after permissions from Pendle Borough Council. The new proposal aims to restore its tourism role. The scheme includes five 40ft by 14ft units accessed via the existing internal road network, plus new hedgerow planting along boundaries. Based on an average occupancy of two people per caravan and 60 days of use per year, the seven units could generate approximately £85,680 in visitor spending annually, including around £48,720 spent off-site in the local economy.
