Japanese convenience store chain Lawson, together with Glory and the Japan RV Association, is expanding its "Convenience RV Park" pilot project, allowing overnight stays in vehicles on store parking lots. From July 17, 2026, 21 stores in Saitama, Shizuoka and Aichi will be added to the seven stores in Chiba Prefecture, bringing the total to 28 locations. This is the first introduction of the service in Saitama, Shizuoka and Aichi.
The fee is 2500–3000 yen per spot, payable by card only. Check-in is from 15:00 to 22:00, check-out by 10:00. Dedicated overnight zones are marked, with electricity (15 A), 24-hour restrooms and waste disposal services. All activities outside the vehicle are prohibited.
During the one-year pilot at seven Chiba stores, average occupancy on holidays exceeded 90%, and over 90% of surveyed users spent more than 500 yen in the store. According to a survey, 80% of users were over 50 years old, and 99% expressed willingness to use the service if expanded. No complaints or major incidents were reported. Lawson plans to expand to about 70 stores by the end of fiscal 2026, including Tokyo, Kanagawa, Mie and Gifu.
