In Albacete, the plenary session unanimously backed the Socialist municipal group's initiative to modernize and expand infrastructure for motorhomes, caravans, and campers. The only existing area near the university campus, with eight spaces, is overcrowded on weekends and holidays, and its equipment is outdated.
Plans include renovating the current site on Avenida de España, adding shade structures, toilets, upgraded water points, electricity, improved waste disposal systems, and video surveillance. A feasibility study will also be conducted for a second municipal facility in locations such as Imaginalia, Pozo Majano, or Paseo de la Cuba.
Councillor Marisa Sánchez Cerro noted that motorhome tourism generates an average of 170 euros per vehicle per day for local commerce and services. Annual income from such tourism is estimated at around one million euros.
