The municipality of Fossacesia has unblocked the procedure for the camper parking area on Lungomare Sud, closed 17 months ago for hydraulic safety reasons. The area was classified as a "Red Zone" in the Hydrogeological Risk Plan due to flood risk from the Maier stream.
After 17 months of negotiations with regional authorities, the administration obtained a nine-year concession from the province of Chieti and signed a three-year lease with private owners. A tender for a new operator will be published in the coming days. The new General Plan also provides for additional camper parking areas.
However, a group of councillors from Impegno Comune criticised the situation, stating that after 17 months of delays and three different owners, the area still has no operator and no opening date. They noted that in 2024 up to 400,000 euros in grants for a new equipped area were available but not used, and the 2026 season may also be lost.
