Ten years between a sailboat and a campervan: freedom and trade-offs

Kristin Hanes and her partner Tom have lived rent-free for a decade, alternating between a campervan in the US in summer and a sailboat in Mexico in winter. She paid off debt, built a six-figure online business, and saved hundreds of thousands for retirement. Drawbacks include lack of stability, missing modern amenities, and uncertainty about overnight spots. Hanes says she now wants a home base for a few months a year.
