In Brief

A study by Lotus Car Rental ranks Bulgaria as the top destination for motorhome travel due to low fuel prices and wild camping freedom. Meanwhile, traditional trips to southern France are becoming increasingly costly due to high fuel consumption and prices.

Bulgaria leads for motorhomes

A study by rental company Lotus Car Rental has named Bulgaria the best country for motorhome travel. Criteria included low fuel prices, permitted wild camping, low traffic density, and natural diversity. Georgia and Romania also made the top five.

France and Germany lead in infrastructure but fall short in cost and parking freedom.

The costly reality of a French holiday

A traditional camping trip to southern France is becoming a luxury. A journey from central Netherlands covering about 2000 kilometers, with fuel consumption of 10–14 liters per 100 km, costs hundreds of liters of expensive fuel. Switching to electric vehicles doesn't solve the issue: towing a caravan halves the range and requires frequent charging stops.
