Staff at the Costa del Sol Hospital in Marbella are living in motorhomes and camper vans in the staff car park because they cannot afford rental housing. Advertisements on the hospital's emergency department noticeboard list rooms for 800–1,000 euros per month, making rent unaffordable on a salary of around 1,500 euros. The situation has persisted for months or years and affects not only healthcare workers but also teachers, hospitality staff, and airport employees. The CSIF union is urging hospital management and the local council to take action, including reopening a former residence for temporary accommodation, and notes that summer temperatures of up to 40°C make living in vehicles unbearable.
