On 18 July 2026, Lower Saxony police are carrying out control measures on the A30 and A31 motorways in the Emsland and Grafschaft Bentheim districts, targeting campervans, trailers and tourist coaches. Last year, out of 21 vehicles checked, five had load-securing violations, four were overloaded, and two were banned from driving. One trailer driver had no licence, and control was handed over to a passenger. According to the KBA, as of 1 April 2025, more than 1 million campervans were registered in Germany, with the total number of camping vehicles exceeding 1.8 million.
On the first day of the 2026 summer holidays, Brandenburg police carried out checks on the A9 motorway. At the Fläming-Ost rest area, out of 54 vehicles inspected, 15 were overloaded, two had technical defects including a diesel leak and a corroded brake disc, and one campervan was towed away.
Bonn police are organising two free safety events for campervan and caravan owners on 16 and 17 July 2026 in Königswinter and Bornheim. Owners can weigh their vehicles free of charge on axle scales and receive advice from traffic police, crime prevention experts and TÜV Rheinland specialists on technical condition, load securing, gas cylinder safety and other topics. The events are purely informational, with no fines imposed.
Earlier, on 29 March 2026, Neumünster police held a similar free check at the Aalbek service station, including weighing and advice on loading, gas equipment and theft protection.
