Catalonia promotes Grand Tour route for motorhome travelers

Construction of a smart parking area for motorhomes has started in Socuéllamos, Spain. The 1,860 sq m facility will accommodate up to 12 motorhomes and feature automated access, individual electricity supply, surveillance cameras, and separate bathroom modules. Completion is expected between September and October 2026, funded by the Diputación de Ciudad Real.

On August 12, 2026, a total solar eclipse will be visible in Spain. Optimal viewing locations include coastal areas in Galicia and Asturias, as well as inland plateaus in Castilla-La Mancha, with a clear western horizon. Campers can flexibly choose their spot, but early booking is advised due to expected crowds. Safe observation requires certified ISO 12312-2 eclipse glasses.

Spain's DGT has updated inspection intervals for motorhomes and campers. Campers over 10 years old must be inspected every six months, motorhomes annually. A new road sign S-128 for caravan waste disposal points was also introduced.

The municipality of Ibiza is taking legal action to evict an illegal caravan settlement on public land in the Sa Joveria area. Police have identified the vehicles, and owners face fines for illegal parking and possibly unauthorized waste disposal. A similar procedure was previously required to clear illegal shacks from the same site.

Authorities in Lanzarote are preparing a ban on tourist buggy and quad caravans on rural roads and protected natural areas. Territorial Planning Councillor Jesús Machín Tavío described the situation as 'unsustainable' and said work on restrictions is already underway. The ban is based on the Island Planning Plan, which allows stopping the activity if convoys exceed three vehicles or lack an acoustic impact report.

In the first month of the summer campaign, Sant Antoni (Ibiza) police checked 73 vehicles, issued 19 fines and seized six abandoned vehicles. Fines can reach €30,000.
