According to the Federal Statistical Office, German campsites recorded 44.7 million overnight stays in 2025, a 4.2% increase from 2024 and a quarter more than in pre-pandemic 2019. Since 2005, camping overnight stays have more than doubled, while total accommodation growth was only 45%. The most popular destinations were the Baltic Sea coast in Schleswig-Holstein (3.5 million), the Black Forest (2.6 million), and the North Sea coast in Lower Saxony (2.0 million). Prices for camping stays rose disproportionately: motorhome pitches were 32% more expensive than in 2020, and campsite fees increased by 29%.
