A Spanish man, José Antonio, has converted a 12-square-metre motorhome into his permanent residence, eliminating mortgage and utility costs. The interior includes a bedroom with a 135 by 200 cm bed, a kitchen with gas hobs, an 85-litre fridge and a microwave, a shower, and a garage capable of carrying a 1000 cc motorcycle. The number of motorhomes in Spain rose from just over 48,000 in 2015 to nearly 137,000 by 2026. Spain's Directorate-General for Traffic updated its motorhome guidance in March 2026, clarifying the distinction between parking and camping, and setting periodic technical inspection intervals: none for vehicles up to four years old, biennial after four years, and annual after ten.
