An amendment to Spain's General Traffic Regulations, published in the BOE, has come into force. Motorhomes can now park in cities on equal terms with other vehicles, provided they do not exceed the parking space dimensions, rest only on their tires (wheel chocks are allowed), and do not discharge fluids. Municipalities retain the right to regulate parking times, fees, and towing.
The reform, sought for nearly 15 years, is considered historic for the development of motorhome tourism. As of 2025, Spain has about 365,000 such vehicles, with over 7,000 new and 31,000 used units sold last year. However, the legal status of a motorhome as a dwelling remains unclear: the law does not prohibit living in it, but it does not recognize it as a home.
