In Germany, three main types of gas cylinders are available for motorhomes and caravans. Grey steel cylinders are owned and can be exchanged nationwide, red deposit cylinders are tied to the supplier, and aluminium Alugas cylinders are lighter but more expensive. Cylinders require mandatory testing every 10 years and must be stored in a sealed locker in the vehicle.
