In the Montaña Arena area on the southern coast of Gran Canaria, visitors have set up camp in motorhomes, caravans, and camper vans to cope with the heatwave. They rely on fans, ice, and portable showers. Some, like Alfonso Umpiérrez, have converted a refrigerated van into a mobile home, while others, like Iván Santana, bring water for showers. José Sánchez sells bread, ice, and ice cream to the campers. A couple from Cádiz says the local heat is more bearable due to the breeze.
