Beekeeping family from Siirt receives caravan under state program, boosts honey production

The Korkusuz family from Çağbaşı village (Siirt), beekeepers for 36 years, received a 50% grant from Turkey's Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry to purchase a caravan and equipment. Under the Rural Development Investments Support Program, they were allocated 1.856 million liras for 300 hives, honey extraction machinery, and a caravan. Previously living in tents and sheds, they now travel with the caravan to different regions, increasing their hive count to 1,300 and producing about 20 tons of honey annually. Siirt ranks 5th in Turkey for honey production (over 3,000 tons).

The Rural Development Investment Support Program provided 300 pollen-trap hives, a honey extractor, and a caravan with electricity, water, and toilet. In 2025, Siirt province has about 258,000 hives and produces over 3,000 tons of honey, ranking 5th in Turkey.

The caravan is equipped with electricity, water, toilet, TV and refrigerator. The family increased their hive count to 1,300 and produced about 20 tons of honey last year. The nephew İbrahim Korkusuz also started beekeeping after receiving 220 hives under the same program. According to Siirt's agriculture directorate, the province ranks 5th in Turkey for honey production (over 3,000 tons from 258,000 hives). In 2025, about 110 producers received support totaling 234 million lira.
