Camping sites in Hessen nearly fully booked for holiday

US manufacturer Encore has introduced the ROG 12RK-FB mini travel trailer, featuring a foldable shower and toilet mounted above the drawbar. The trailer is 4.6 meters long with a 3.7-meter living space. Inside, a sofa converts into a double bed (2.03×1.52 m), and the rear houses a pull-out outdoor kitchen with a 100-liter fridge, sink, and two-burner stove. The caravan weighs 1,270 kg and starts at $34,450 (approx. €29,565) in the US.

Owners of motorhomes and caravans with LPG systems must undergo an inspection every two years and after any repair. Since mid-June 2025, proof of a functional system for heating, cooking, and cooling is required. Fines for missing the inspection range from €15 to €80. The check takes 20–45 minutes and costs €40–€80.

Flowcamper has introduced the Max Autark camper van built on the Mercedes Sprinter platform. The model is designed for long-distance travel and off-road use, featuring a modular interior with real wood trim. Options include all-wheel drive, upgraded suspension, and additional off-grid equipment. Prices start at approximately €160,000.

The island of Fehmarn in Schleswig-Holstein attracts surfers due to wind conditions, especially in autumn. More than half of tourist overnight stays on the island are at campsites, where a pitch costs 30–50 euros per night. There are about 20 campsites on the island, some located directly on the beach and near surf spots.

In Mettmann South, motorhomes, commercial vehicles, and long-term parkers are blocking streets. The city administration proposes a parking management zone with a three-hour maximum stay and an annual resident permit for €75. The proposal goes to the planning committee on June 2. Residents had previously complained about permanently parked motorhomes, but a full ban was deemed legally unenforceable.

A retro campsite has opened at Gräbendorfer See, a former open-pit coal mine in Brandenburg that was flooded from 1996 to 2007, becoming the first fully flooded pit lake in the state. The campsite is run by Uwe Stephan, offering a nostalgic atmosphere for visitors. The lake has a 9.4 km walking trail, and its 170-hectare island is off-limits due to nesting by over 10 bird species.
