Germany recorded a record number of overnight stays at campsites in 2023. The Baltic Sea coast (3.5 million nights), the Black Forest (2.6 million), and the North Sea coast in Lower Saxony (2.0 million) were the most popular regions. Prices for motorhome pitches have risen by 32% since 2020, and for standard campsites by 29%, outpacing hotel price increases (27%) and overall consumer price inflation (22%). Experts advise booking early, traveling in the shoulder season, or choosing less crowded regions like the Franconian Lake District or the Eifel to save money.
