Travelers Kirsty and James face an additional AUD 800 in fuel costs for their trip from Melbourne to Darwin with a caravan. The price of unleaded 98 in Melbourne has exceeded AUD 2.50 per liter, while diesel fuel has reached approximately AUD 2.45. Some caravan owners are postponing trips due to high fuel prices, and Australia's consumer watchdog stated it will monitor companies to prevent price gouging.
