Bulgaria's Ministry of Tourism plans to identify areas with potential for camper tourism by June 2027. Tourism Minister Ilin Dimitrov announced this in parliament in response to a question from MP Dimo Drenchev. According to the National Tourist Register, 78 campsites were classified in the country as of October 2026. The Unified Tourist Information System recorded about 20,000 registrations at campsites between January and August 2026, 43% of them in inland areas. Dimitrov said the data covers people staying at campsites but not all camper travellers, as no system tracks them. He cited European figures showing more than 215,000 new motorhomes and caravans registered in 2025. By the end of 2027 the ministry aims to identify at least 100 tourist sites requiring investment planning, including camper parking areas and service stations. Funding is planned for 2028 to April 2030.
