Farm-based motorhome parking spaces have become a popular alternative, helping to reduce pressure on campsites and the issue of wild camping. In the canton of Bern, for example, one seasonal parking space is permitted in agricultural zones without a building permit, provided a number of conditions are met, including operation only from May to October. Local authorities have become more tolerant of such spaces as they create added value for the region by directing tourists to local shops and restaurants.
