French MEP Grégory Allione has asked the European Commission to make fire extinguishers mandatory in all vehicles, including motorhomes. In France, the requirement currently applies only to goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes, while motorhomes, classified as M1, are exempt. The proposal follows forest fires in the Landes region, where vehicle fires spread to vegetation. Only Belgium, Greece, Poland and Bulgaria currently require extinguishers in the EU.
