In France, a caravan may be kept in a garden without planning permission for no more than three months per year, with all periods combined. Longer stays require a prior declaration; if the caravan is used as living accommodation or has its wheels and tow bar removed, a different regime applies. Penalties can include fines, and for mobile homes up to €6,000 per square metre.
