Guardia Civil has clarified the rules for overnight stays in motorhomes in the province of León. According to the statement, sleeping in a properly parked motorhome or caravan is not illegal as long as the external parking conditions are not violated. However, in protected natural areas of León, fines for illegal parking can reach €3,000.
Travel expert Marina explained the difference between sleeping and camping. Under DGT rules, sleeping is allowed if you do not go beyond the vehicle's perimeter. Setting up an awning, chairs, or tables is considered camping and carries fines from €90 to €600, and up to €5,000 in protected areas. Sources differ on the maximum fine: according to Guardia Civil, it reaches €3,000 in León, while according to the expert, it can be up to €5,000 in protected areas.
