The RV Industry Association Board of Directors has unanimously approved a requirement for all new RVs to be equipped with a grounding monitor interrupter (GMI). The effective date for installation is January 1, 2027, with mandatory enforcement starting at the beginning of each manufacturer's 2028 model year production. The GMI checks for proper ground connection before allowing current flow and disconnects power if ground is lost. The deadline was previously delayed due to a lack of available listed GMIs.
