The RV Industry Association (RVIA) unanimously approved mandatory installation of ground monitoring devices (GMI) on all new RVs. The requirement takes effect January 1, 2027, with enforcement beginning with 2028 model year production for each manufacturer.
The GMI device checks for proper grounding before supplying power and disconnects power if grounding is lost. The deadline was previously postponed due to a lack of certified GMI devices.
