The 2026 National Electric Code mandates a new safety device for all RVs with 30A or 50A electrical service. Starting January 1, 2026, these RVs must be equipped with a Grounding Monitor Interrupter (GMI) to prevent 'hot skin' conditions by continuously checking for a proper ground connection. The requirement, finalized in the code published in late September 2025, addresses safety hazards from damaged power cords or faulty campground pedestals.
