Police in the Mettmann district (North Rhine-Westphalia) will hold a free weighing event for motorhomes, caravans and campers on June 27, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the police station parking lot. The aim is to prevent overloading, which often results from full water tanks, gas cylinders and luggage. Participants will receive advice on proper loading, and any violations found will not lead to fines. Owners must bring their vehicle registration document. Weighing will be organized by odd and even license plate numbers in different time slots.
On July 7, 2026, a similar event will take place in Hemer at the Verkehrswacht premises (Sonnenblumenallee 118) from 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., organized by police, ADAC and Verkehrswacht. Police will also offer free travel safety consultations covering loading, general traffic questions and crime prevention. Many motorhomes and caravans quickly reach their maximum weight due to additional equipment (awnings, roof racks, tents), reducing the payload for passengers and luggage.
