The Elon Town Council has directed planning staff to amend the Land Management Ordinance (LMO) to relax restrictions on recreational vehicles in residential zones, following resident complaints and two community meetings in April. Participants overwhelmingly opposed screening requirements, $60 zoning compliance permits, and the 7-day front-yard parking limit, but two-thirds agreed RVs should not serve as permanent residences. The council agreed to drop screening and permit mandates, replace the 7-day rule with a distance-from-road requirement, and grandfather vehicles purchased before 2023.
