China: rising complaints over motorhome parking

Feixiang has unveiled the Yuanjie Q5 camper based on the Ford T8 chassis. Dimensions are 5999×2450×3000 mm, gross weight 5250 kg, and seating capacity 3–6 people. It is powered by a fifth-generation 2.3-litre Ford PUMA diesel engine producing 128 kW and 430 Nm, paired with an imported ZF 8-speed automatic transmission. The official price is 556,000 yuan. The interior offers three berths, a kitchen, an expandable bathroom, a 330-litre fresh water tank, a 48V electrical system with 10 kWh lithium battery, a 5000W inverter and a 1240W solar panel.

China's State Council has circulated a document from ten government departments outlining measures to stimulate motorhome consumption. The supply-side quality improvement section encourages companies to develop more suitable products, promotes new energy motorhomes, and calls for faster development of safety standards. In the first half of the year, 12,153 self-propelled motorhomes were registered in China, up 32.6% year-on-year, with new energy models accounting for 24% of the total.

Chinese developers have introduced a motorhome based on an electric tricycle. The compact body houses a refrigerator, Xiaomi air conditioner, water heater and inverter, powered by a 200 Ah lithium battery and a 1200 W solar panel. A 4000 W motor drives the tricycle, with a backup generator for low sunlight. The model is positioned as a self-sufficient vehicle for remote locations.

The document encourages new energy motorhomes, requires campsite siting to comply with farmland protection and ecological red lines, and promotes leave-no-trace camping. According to a report by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, sales of self-propelled motorhomes exceeded 20,000 units for the first time in 2025, while sales of new energy motorhomes for long-distance travel rose 229% year-on-year.
