In Austria and other European countries, there are significant differences in the rules for overnight stays in a car or motorhome outside campsites. In Carinthia, as in Vienna, Lower Austria and Tyrol, free overnight parking in nature is prohibited under nature conservation law. An exception is short rest breaks when tired on parking lots, but not for the purpose of longer stays. Violators face fines.
