Volkswagen has unveiled the Grand California camper van, based on the Crafter, in a Dune Special Edition. The model has a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine producing 120 kW and 410 N.m of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and either front-wheel drive or 4Motion all-wheel drive. An optional Off-Grid Package adds solar panels and two 40 Ah lithium-iron phosphate batteries, increasing usable battery capacity by 40%. The Dune Special Edition features Ascot Grey paintwork, black bumpers, 17-inch Lismore alloy wheels and Dune decals. The Crafter-based Grand California is not available in South Africa, where the Crafter is sold only in Bus and Panel Van configurations.
