According to a study by peer-to-peer rental platform Wikicampers, 17.2% of trips in summer 2026 were booked less than seven days before departure, up from 11.9% in 2025. The median lead time fell from 46 to 35 days. Average trip distance decreased by 11% to 1,161 km, with average duration at 7.2 days. Campervans, vans and combis accounted for 56.4% of rentals, up 5.4 percentage points year-on-year. 48% of renters departed from their own department and 67.2% from their own region. Departure volumes rose in Doubs, Savoie, Manche and Hautes-Pyrénées.
