On June 27, 2026, a motorhome caught fire on the A9 Pyhrn Autobahn in Austria. The driver, a 61-year-old German, noticed smoke in the cabin and pulled onto the emergency lane. He, his wife and two dogs left the vehicle before firefighters arrived. According to some sources, the fire started around 15:30; others report it occurred on Saturday afternoon. The cause remains unknown.
Firefighters from three volunteer brigades (Zeit, Mautern and Kammern) — 27 to 30 personnel with five vehicles — extinguished the blaze using foam and a thermal imaging camera. The fire also spread to the roadside vegetation. The motorhome was completely destroyed. Traffic was temporarily closed: some sources say until 17:00, others for one hour. A queue of about two kilometres formed. Police, Red Cross and ASFINAG also attended.
