Motorhome burns out on A9 in Austria: couple and two dogs escape

A group of Austrian fans from Großkrut set up camp at the Spielberg campsite, directly behind the Niki Lauda curve. Their setup includes two trucks, a pool with a whirlpool, a tent for 20 people, and a large illuminated Mercedes star. In 2017, the star caught the attention of Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz, who called Mercedes boss Toto Wolff, after which the fans were invited to dinner in a motorhome.

Anna Leili from BRG/BORG Schloss Traunsee took third place in the Dr. Hans Riegel-Fachpreis award in the Architecture category for her project converting a Ford Transit into a camper. This summer, she plans to travel to Corsica with her family in the converted vehicle.

The Falkensteiner Group, which considers Carinthia one of its key markets, recently acquired the campsite in the eastern bay of Lake Wörthersee near Klagenfurt. The site now features a new reception, restaurant, and shop, with 40% of its 337 pitches occupied. The company plans to extend the season to year-round, renovate sanitary facilities and pitches, and add mobile homes. Additionally, after resolving a dispute with former permanent campers, Falkensteiner is preparing to build a campsite at Lake Hafnersee: the project includes 170 pitches, new infrastructure, a spa, and the renovation of a former hotel. Investment totals €35 million, with opening scheduled for autumn 2027.

Since June 22, 2026, Leoben has added two new motorhome parking areas: 'Schladnitzer Dorfstadl Camping' and Stellplatz Steinscherer. The projects were launched by the Erzberg-Leoben tourism association to meet growing demand in the camping segment. The first site features sanitary facilities and a self-check-in system, while the second offers two central pitches. The new facilities are expected to boost local economic impact by attracting active tourists.

A new forest campsite with 43 pitches opens in St. Corona am Wechsel, Austria, as the planned 3-star hotel project is postponed due to lack of an operator. The mountain bike resort invested €500,000 in the development. Expansion to 93 pitches and the first wooden chalets are planned for 2027–2028. Visitor numbers are boosted by a second lift and inclusion in the Gravity Card network.

The WDR Fernsehen program 'Wir werden Camper' aired an episode following Britta and Andreas from Dorsten as they travel through Austria in their 8.5-meter caravan with their dog Toni. The couple, a dentist and a psychiatrist, have been camping for four years. The episode covers stops at Weissensee, Ossiacher See, Velden am Wörthersee, and Graz, where they search for children's lederhosen ahead of becoming grandparents.
