Javi, 69, has lived in a caravan at the municipal Son Hugo parking lot in Mallorca for six years after being unable to pay rent. The site currently hosts 111 caravans, reflecting a rise in people unable to access housing on the island. The city council is considering closing the lot and restricting access to between 8:00 and 22:00, raising concerns among residents who work outside those hours. Javi says 95% of caravan dwellers are there out of necessity due to high rents, which range from 1,100 to 1,700 euros and above.
