David and Pamela Brack, both 81, from Chester-le-Street, County Durham, died on September 5 after a fire broke out in their campervan at the Huttopia Gorges du Verdon campsite in Castellane, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. Their son, parked nearby, attempted a rescue, according to French media. An inquest opened in Durham on October 12 and was adjourned until July 20, 2027; a post-mortem gave the provisional cause of death as the effects of fire. French investigators identified the campervan's heater as the cause, and the public prosecutor of the Digne-les-Bains region said the fire was purely accidental.
