Over the weekend of July 19–20, 2026, numerous illegal caravan encampments were reported across France. In Calvados, more than 900 caravans occupied private land; some left Branville, but in Pont-l’Évêque and Auberville they plan to stay until Sunday. In the Vosges, over a hundred caravans settled in Grange-Aumontzey, prompting three lawsuits over fears of water shortages due to hydrant connections.
In Le Teich (Arcachon Bay), over 200 caravans occupied a private plot and a Natura 2000 zone; the mayor initiated eviction. In Bourgneuf (Savoie), about 140 caravans took over a field; the owner blocked the entrance, causing a traffic jam, with 60 more caravans stuck outside. In Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, about 100 caravans occupied sites in Digne-les-Bains and Mézel, with a commitment to leave by July 26.
In Le Plessis-Belleville (Oise), about 30 caravans occupied a water retention basin, and eviction procedures began. In Ploumilliau, about 50 caravans settled at the Clandy sports complex under an agreement with the municipality for at least a week.
