In the Colonia department of Uruguay, a court sentenced a 58-year-old motorhome owner to ten months in prison with probation for using a counterfeit license plate on a Mercedes-Benz. The plate was found to belong to a 1973 Volkswagen.
The investigation began after police reported a vehicle with a mismatched plate. During a search in Nueva Helvecia, the motorhome was seized and the owner arrested. The court found him guilty of acquiring property known to be obtained through criminal means and of forging the license plate. According to one source, the investigation was conducted jointly with customs.
