Accident on A2: motorhome crashes into barrier, two injured

Leipzig is emerging as a more attractive destination for motorhome travel than Berlin, due to its compactness, affordability, and developed infrastructure. The city offers numerous free attractions, including museums with free admission since 2024, and convenient motorhome parking on the outskirts.

Two motorhomes worth a total of around €110,000 were stolen in Erfurt over two days. The original keys remained with the owners, indicating professional perpetrators. A series of thefts and break-ins also affected Lower Saxony and Hesse, where intruders entered motorhomes through windows. Police are investigating possible links to an organized group.

A motorhome caught fire on the A6 near Neuendettelsau on the afternoon of the incident. The fire started in a construction zone. According to police, no one was injured. The highway towards Schwabach was completely closed, with delays also on the opposite side. The full closure lasted about an hour, after which traffic was gradually allowed past the scene. The cause of the fire and the extent of damage remain unknown.

Sunlight has introduced the Cliff 540 Vanlife, based on the Fiat Ducato, which breaks with the standard camper van layout by omitting the rear transverse bed. Instead, it features a rear seating area and a main bed in the pop-up roof. This configuration targets couples or solo travelers who use the van as a mobile workspace. The model includes a partition to the cab, a fixed ladder to the roof, and enhanced living space at the rear.

Awnings attached to motorhomes and caravans are popular for providing shade and rain protection, but can be damaged by strong winds. To prevent damage, it is recommended to use anchor plates to secure support legs and storm straps with springs to absorb wind loads. An expert advises retracting the awning when it is uncomfortable to stay outside and using tension rods to prevent water pooling.

The campsite on Lühesand (Stade district) opened on May 29, delayed from the planned Easter start due to extensive cleanup and renovations. New tenant Philipp Köhnken completely replaced water, sewage, and electrical lines and added internet access. The site features a family beach club with six bouncy castles, two beach volleyball courts, a children's water slide, and a beach soccer field. The season runs until the end of October; the campsite was closed in 2025.
