Crash on the A9
On the A9 motorway in Thuringia, Germany, a camper crashed into a queue of cars that had formed due to a traffic jam. The driver of the camper, which carried two children, failed to notice the end of the queue. Nine vehicles were damaged, including two minibuses carrying 11 children with special needs and their escorts.
Conflicting casualty figures
According to Source 1, 34 people were injured, including several children. According to Source 2, police initially reported 34 injured but later revised the figure to nine: one person seriously injured and eight with minor injuries.
Aftermath
The motorway towards Berlin was closed for five and a half hours. Police estimate the damage at around 350,000 euros. The traffic jam was caused by an earlier accident on the opposite carriageway, where a horse trailer overturned.
