Nine people were injured in a crash on the A9 motorway in Thuringia, central Germany, late on Wednesday. A camper van failed to brake and hit a line of cars that had formed due to a traffic jam. One person was seriously injured, while the other eight sustained minor injuries. Police initially reported 34 injured but later revised the figure. The driver of the camper van, which carried two children, did not see the end of the queue and crashed into several vehicles. Nine vehicles were damaged, including two minibuses carrying 11 children with special needs and their carers. The motorway towards Berlin was closed for five and a half hours. Police estimated the damage at around 350,000 euros. The traffic jam was caused by an earlier accident on the opposite carriageway, where a horse trailer overturned.
