Mass illegal caravan encampments in France: stadiums and airfield paralyzed

In the commune of Saint-André-de-Corcy (Ain department), 135 caravans occupied the area last Sunday. Local authorities stated they were faced with a fait accompli. Life in the commune has been paralyzed; details are being clarified.

A fair scheduled for June 7 at the Plaquette stadium in Louviers has been postponed. The field is currently occupied by several dozen caravans. Organizers stated that the travelers have committed to leaving by the end of the week, but the event was rescheduled in case of delays. A new date will be announced later.

The municipality of Grandvilliers (Oise) has launched a feasibility study to relocate its motorhome parking area. The new site is planned near the leisure zone, with construction expected to start in 2027.

The mayor of Vétraz-Monthoux expressed dissatisfaction after about 40 caravans were parked on the grounds of the Collège de la Géline. The caravans are placed around staff housing and on the sports field. The president of the Annemasse agglomeration has requested the prefecture to initiate forced eviction, citing a feeling of insecurity among residents, staff, and students.

The commune of Maël-Carhaix in Côtes-d'Armor, Brittany, has opened a free motorhome stopover with six spaces. The site includes a waste disposal area, water supply, and three electrical outlets. Some services may be suspended in winter, except for waste disposal. The stopover is located near shops and serves as a base for exploring the Monts d'Arrée.

Approximately 150 caravans have set up camp on the airfield in Fayence without authorization. Local authorities have declared the occupation illegal and plan to take action.
