Illegal caravan encampments
On June 7, 2026, several illegal encampments of caravans belonging to traveling communities were reported across France. In Pont-d'Ain (Ain department), about 80 caravans broke into and occupied the Blanchon sports fields. Mayor Vincent Bourdoduc plans to file a complaint for trespassing and property damage. Another 15 caravans settled in Fareins.
In Castres (Tarn department), around a hundred caravans occupied sports fields in the Borde Basse area. Police and a prefecture representative are on site; negotiations have begun. In Baume-les-Dames (Doubs department), caravans were set up near the campsite and business center; after talks, representatives promised to resolve the situation. Earlier, on June 5, caravans occupied the Jo Maso stadium in Saint-Laurent-de-la-Salanque (Aude), but were evacuated by order of the prefect by 2:00 PM.
Fatal accident in Sarthe
On June 7 around 11:15 AM, on departmental road RD 309 in Parcé-sur-Sarthe (Sarthe), a motorhome left the road and hit a tree. The driver died at the scene. Preliminary reports suggest a sudden medical issue. A passenger was hospitalized in shock. Fourteen firefighters and an ambulance crew responded. The gendarmerie has launched an investigation.
