Björn Rotsaert, a 46-year-old Belgian, bought a used 1992 Peugeot J5 camper van for €4,000 in 2025 and spent two weeks refurbishing the interior. After several trips he took the vehicle to Carrec Technocenter for an in-depth inspection. Specialists found missing timing belt covers, electrical wires rubbing against the belt, oil leaks, worn engine mounts and a heavily rusted brake pipe. The front tyres were sixteen years old and the spare dated from 1998. Although the van had passed a Belgian roadworthiness test before registration, the owner decided to sell it and buy another camper van.
