A series of fires across the UK has affected caravan parks and individual caravans.
Suffolk: A major wildfire on the Suffolk coast led to the evacuation of 200 caravans from Cliff House holiday park. The fire started on the evening of 27 July on Dunwich Heath and spread to 100 hectares. An emergency was declared due to proximity to Sizewell B nuclear power station, which continues to operate normally. Firefighting efforts involve 18 fire engines and 90 firefighters, using drones and quad bikes. The fire also affected the RSPB Minsmere reserve, damaging rare bird species and habitats.
Oxfordshire: On 12 July, a fire at Oaks caravan park in Fifield Wick damaged more than 20 static homes. The cause was accidental ignition from a barbecue. Five households remain in temporary accommodation; no injuries were reported.
Durham: On 22 July, in Mickleton, a caravan caught fire a few metres from fuel pumps at a petrol station. The blaze destroyed the caravan and two cars, damaged a third, and affected a telegraph pole, leaving the village without phone and internet. The B6277 road was closed.
Wales: On 29 July, in Rudbaxton near Haverfordwest, a fire destroyed a touring caravan and spread to a single-storey extension of a mixed residential and commercial building. The fire was extinguished by 5:29 am.
