On March 2, 2026, an RV explosion and fire at Aloha RV Park in Abbotsford, British Columbia, left 68-year-old Sylvia Gillis with serious burns. A nearby couple pulled her away from the RV before it was completely destroyed. Gillis was airlifted to a Vancouver hospital.
Gillis's dog, Max, suffered burns while protecting her, then ran onto the road in fright and was hit by a car. He is now recovering at a veterinarian.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. All of Gillis's belongings were destroyed. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support her and cover the dog's medical expenses.
