Residents of Becancour in Centre-du-Quebec are demanding that local officials provide more space for vanlife enthusiasts. The petition responds to a one-year pilot project that banned such vehicles from the tourist office car park near Highway 55 and the Laviolette Bridge. The petition has so far gathered about fifty signatures, including from residents, business owners and travellers. The municipality currently has no official regulations for small recreational and nomadic vehicles, but will hold a public consultation on 8 December. Mayor Pascal Blondin said the aim is to regulate them properly, and noted that owners of nearby campsites have complained about unfair competition.
