Converting an estate car or compact car into a mini-camper: what to consider

In Leißling, Germany, the hotel 'Schöne Aussicht' now offers a new accommodation option — a converted 11-meter American school bus. Owner Matthias Haß transformed the former school vehicle into a motorhome available for rent. The bus has been on the hotel grounds since January 2025.

The Lüdenscheid Automobile Club, together with ADAC camping experts, is holding a weighing campaign for motorhomes and motorhome-trailer combinations. The event takes place on June 13 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Schützenplatz Hohe Steinert. Participants receive a detailed protocol showing total weight and axle load distribution. Organizers note that overloaded or improperly loaded vehicles can impair handling and pose a safety risk.

Cummins has introduced the Onan QD 8000, an 8 kW diesel generator for motorhomes, expedition vehicles, and truck sleeper cabs. The unit features liquid cooling and soundproofing, designed for continuous operation at 50 or 60 Hz. It can simultaneously power household appliances, air conditioning, and onboard electronics without external shore power. The Saarburg-Kell association of municipalities signed a cooperation agreement with Camping-Car Park on June 9, 2026, to operate the 'Hochwald' campsite. The site closed at the end of 2025 for renovations and will reopen as a dedicated motorhome parking area. The operator will invest around €100,000 to set up 30 motorhome pitches and integrate the site into its European booking network with over one million users. The reopening is planned for summer 2026.

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (VWCV) has introduced the facelifted fifth-generation Caddy. Exterior changes are subtle, but the interior gains a 12.9-inch touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, and wireless charging.
