Converting the UAZ-452 (Bukhanka) into a camper for long-distance travel is becoming increasingly popular amid growing auto tourism in Russia. The model has been produced for almost 70 years and serves as a base for modifications: reinforced bumpers with winches, skid plates, a snorkel, an expedition roof rack, sound insulation, sleeping places and a compact kitchen. Some projects include six-wheel versions with a third axle and portal axles increasing ground clearance to 420 mm.
