Buckley Conversions has unveiled a prototype camper van interior built almost entirely with large-format 3D printing, weighing about 1,500 pounds (680 kg) less than a conventional plywood-and-aluminum fit-out. The prototype is based on a 144-inch-wheelbase Mercedes-Benz eSprinter, with parts printed in polypropylene using a KUKA industrial robot. The company claims the weight reduction improves range and handling, but has not yet released measured data. Wood remains only in two places, with plans to eliminate it in future builds.
