Emilio Gilpo, a retired shipbuilder, spent six months constructing a floating vessel by mounting a travel trailer on a barge made of wood, steel and plastic barrels. The craft was launched into the Nicomekl River in South Surrey using a crane. Transport Canada is reviewing whether it meets marine safety and environmental regulations. Gilpo plans to add a motor and move it to a quieter spot on the river.
