The port of Alghero (Sardinia) has seen a rise in unauthorised camper van parking with tents, tables and deckchairs, effectively turning the port into an illegal campsite. Christian Mulas, chairman of the municipal environment commission, stated: "The port of Alghero cannot be a parking-dormitory for campers."
Mulas proposed installing electronic barriers and an access control system with number plate readers to restrict entry to residents, boat owners and authorised persons. Police checks will also be stepped up. The measure targets violations of parking and sanitary rules, including the risk of wastewater discharge.
The "Decoro" project will start in the summer season, but requires coordination with regional authorities.
