Seongnam Probed Over Unregistered RV Camp in Yuldong Park

In South Korea's national parks, the items visitors need to bring vary by accommodation type. Shelters and campgrounds have different usage rules, and even caravans and houses at the same campground may not have the same amenities. The Korea National Park Service advises checking for bedding and cooking supplies, as well as check-in and check-out times, which can differ by facility.

County councilor Kim Won-jin demanded Buan County disclose the legal basis for reversing its earlier decision to demolish caravans at Jiksocheon auto camping site. The county initially treated the units as illegal buildings but later excluded them from building approval after the operator demonstrated their mobility. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has consistently held in 2013 and 2024 interpretations that the key criterion is not whether a structure can be moved, but whether there is practical benefit in moving it. The county cited the lack of clear standards for assessing such benefit, raising concerns about consistency and fairness in administrative decisions.

Seongnam's Yuldong Auto Camping Site, already under investigation for operating as an unregistered campsite, now faces allegations that a dog playground on its grounds was built contrary to the approved park plan. A civic group is demanding verification of proper administrative procedures and threatens legal action if authorities do not respond.

Since November 2024, Cheongju has charged a fee for vehicles parked over 48 hours at public lots, ending the long-term occupation of these spaces. However, motorhomes and caravans have moved to peripheral roads and residential neighborhoods, causing complaints from residents.
